Salem Community Theater to play Seven Brides For Seven Brothers July 25 – Aug. 1
Salem, Utah (June 1, 2019) — Get ready to stomp your feet and have a rip roarin’ time when this beloved classic hits the Salem Community Theater Stage, July 25 to Aug. 1. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a high stepping, touching, a fun-filled musical set in 1850 Oregon. With a book written by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay, lyrics by Jonny Mercer and Gene de Paul, new songs by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn, this show is sure to be a favorite. Audiences will want to clap along one minute and cry the next as our talented cast members play out these familiar, hilarious and sometimes loving scenes. Bring your whole family and enjoy this foot stomping, poignant show.
Based on the MGM hit film and Stephen Vincent Benet’s short story “The Sobbin’ Women,” the show tells the story of seven backwoodsmen led by their pompous, determined older brother Adam. He miraculously wins the heart of the beautiful, feisty Milly and marries her that same day. Milly immediately sets to work taming her new brothers, getting them ready to take brides of their own. Her plan backfires and chaos ensues with a combination of high energy dancing and wonderful songs like “Goin’ Courtin,” “Sobbin’ Women,” and “Wonderful, Wonderful Day.” Set in a beautiful Oregon valley nestled by a gorgeous mountain range, patrons will find the setting familiar to our own beautiful Mount Nebo. "It was a risk to take on such a male dominant, dance-heavy show for our third year," said the SCT board, "But, we are so glad we did. We nailed it with our incredibly talented cast. It's going to be a fabulous show."
Performances for this show start at 7:00 pm and will be held at Salem Hills High School, 150 Skyhawk Blvd., Salem, Utah 84653. The show runs Thursday, July 25 through Thursday, Aug. 1 with a Saturday Matinee at 1:00 p.m. No showing on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 or through Salem City for $8 (www.salemcity.org/salem/recreation department/Salem Community Theater).
