The Salem City Office will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2019 for President’s Day. Garbage service will not be affected by this holiday and will be picked up on Tuesday, February 19th as usual. Please have your garbage can out by 7:00 a.m.


 

Beginning March 1, 2019, Salem City will be cleaning up all holiday decorations from the cemetery.  If you have any decorations you would like to keep, please make sure you remove them before March 1st.   


 

Our Miss Salem Pageant Director, Andrea Robertson is looking for individuals to help on the committee with various responsibilities for the Miss Salem pageant.   If you are interested in helping out, please let Andrea know

NOTICE TO CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS, LABOR UNIONS, AND PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS

 

The City of Salem intends to solicit help from the Utah Army National Guard under an Innovative Readiness Construction Assistance Program. The project assistance will be for construction assistance to the Cole Park grading project. No local funds are available to complete this project without National Guard assistance.
Local contractors, labor union organizations or private individuals who have questions or wish to voice opposition of the National Guard’s assistance regarding this project may contact Salem City at 801-423-2770 no later than February 15, 2019. Persons not filing comments within the timeframe noted will be considered to have waved their objections to the participation of the Utah Army National Guard in this project.


 

CALENDARS: The 2019 Salem City Calendars have been mailed out.  If you are a resident and get your mail in a Post Office box, you will need to come to the office to pick up your calendar.  We do have extra calendars for sale at $10 each. 

There are some 2018 calendars left if you would like one for the pictures or the emergency cards.  You can stop by and pick one up.  They are free as long as they last.
 



Salem City and Landmark Design are currently working to update the Salem City General Plan. The Plan will focus on:

1) Evaluating the current vision & goals for the Land Use element
2) Creating a vision & goals for the Northwest Quadrant (Area between Arrowhead Trail and I-15)
3) Reviewing and revising the existing Parks, Recreation and Open Space element

REMINDER: The winter parking ordinance goes into effect on November 1st. There is no parking on the street from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. to accommodate snow removal. This ordinance is enforced whether it is snowing or not so please make sure all vehicles are removed from the streets. Also, if you have basketball standards or other items in the street, please remove them.


 

Salem City Sewer Plant Project

Salem City Mayor and Council would like to thank those who came to the public hearing on February 21, where the sewer plant project and bonding was discussed.  There were a lot of good questions and comments.   As we continue to get new questions we will publish them here for all to read.    We will also update on the progress of the sewer plant.

  • April 30: Bid documents are available
  • May 9: Prebid meetings at City Hall, with site visit afterwards (WRF project at 10:00 AM, pipelines project at 2:00 PM)

Board approved the loan for $20 million for 30 years at 1.15% interest

Wednesday April 4 - City Council Meeting -

Wednesday March 7 - City Council Meeting -

City Council approved Resolution 30718B establishing sewer rates for the next couple of years.   Here is the link to the resolution:   Resolution 30718B

City Council approved Resolution 30718A - adopting the wastewater facilities planning study and environmental review and assessment (for a copy of this, please contact the city office).

City Council also authorized Forsgren Engineering to begin the bidding process for the sewer plant.

 Nuisance Abatement

Salem City has ordinances in place regarding nuisance abatement on property.  Nuisances include but are not limited to the following.  Inoperable vehicle's, noxious or unsightly weeds, debris including trash, lumber, construction waste, bricks, tires or other items similar in nature.  FOR SAFETY REASONS WE CAN NO LONGER ACCEPT SHARPS INCLUDING MEDICAL NEEDLES

 Effective Immediately: 

The Salem Police Department will no longer be accepting 
any types of sharps including needles.

Disposal Option:

South Valley Solid Waste District will take your sharps including needles. You can drop medical needles off to them if they are in a sharp container or in a 2 liter soda bottle. You can purchase sharp containers at, Salem Hills Pharmacy, Walmart or by going online.
