Salem City is now offering Renew Choice which allows you to choose to purchase renewable energy (wind, solar etc.) in 100 kilowatt hour increments known as blocks.  Each block costs $2 per month, which is an additional charge on your city bill.  This gives our electrical supplier to purchase renewable energy on the customer's behalf, equal to their Renew Choice purchase.  This renewable energy is then added to the energy grid in place of energy that would have come from non-renewable sources, such as coal-fired energyYou can subscribe to as many blocks as you would like.  Participation is voluntary and you can discontinue at any time.  Check out the link "Renew Choice" link to sign up or for more information.

Because of the warm weather recently, a few citizens have taken it upon themselves to do some spring cleaning in their yards.  Along with this, they have chosen to burn yard waste including tree limbs, leaves etc.  It is important to remember that burning is illegal except during a designated statewide burn period.  Violators are subject to citations that would result in fines.  This year the State has set the open burn period as March 30 - May 30.  Permits must be obtain through the State at their website www.airquality.utah.gov  they are not available at the City Office or through the County.

The Utah Valley Dispatch phone number changed several months ago - if you need a non-emergency response from the police, fire or ambulance departments please call 801-794-3970.  Of course, if you have an emergency, please call 911.
