Curbside Recycling Program is here!
We are excited about now offering Curbside Recycling to residents of Salem. A FLIER has been mailed to all the residents explaining about the recycling program. This will be an Opt Out program, meaning if you do not want to participate you will need to complete the OPT OUT FORM and drop it by the city office. Residents will have from December to January 31, 2017 to opt out. After January 31st all who have not opted out will be automatically enrolled in the recycling program. If you DO want to participate in the program, you do not need to do anything. A can will be delivered to your home beginning in February. We anticipate the first recycle pickup to be in March (more information will be sent out).
We need to have least 40% of our residents participate, if not then it will not be cost effective and we may not be able to provide this service.
Anticipated cost for the program:
If we get 60% participation, the approximate rate will be $6.25 a month.
If we get 50% participation, the approximate rate will be $6.75 a month.
If we get 40% participation, the approximate rate will be $7.50 a month.
Additional information is available on the Recycling Program page.
Because of the recent snow accumulations, several large snow piles have popped up around town. As a motorist please be cautious while traveling and realize that these snow mounds create visibility issues. Our younger citizens also like to play on or near these snow piles. Please slow down, be careful and watch out. With the warmer weather, snow is also melting and flooding is a real possibility. Be cautious of standing water on the roadways and the possibility of hydroplaning. Thank you for being safe.

Winter Parking Ordinance
When the ordinance is not in effect, please do not park anything along the street once snow starts accumulating, so the snow plow drivers can clear the street more quickly and thoroughly. This will help with less incidents of damaged parked vehicles, etc.
Additional information regarding snow removal is available here.
During the 2016/2017 budget discussion in May and June 2016, the city was faced with the decision to increase power rates. During this time, Salem City Power was going through a rate study through UMPA (Utah Municipal Power Association). The council decided to hold off on the rate increase until the study was completed (June 2016) and they had time to review it. During the August 24th City Council Meeting the Salem City Council approved a Power Rate Increase for all users. This will go into effect with your August 2016 usage (the bill you will get the first part of October 2016).
